Tips on maintaining your hair extensions or wigs

Styling Tools: It's very important to use a wide tooth or paddle back brush using gentle strokes, when washing and or styling the hair. Small tooth and retail combs can snag the hair which can cause unwanted shedding.

Before Going to Bed: Gently brush hair to remove all tangles. Braid your hair into a couple of big braids, wrap your hair, or tie your hair into a ponytail or bun. Sleeping in a satin scarf  or bonnet is also beneficial.

Washing Your Hair: Keeping your hair extension clean is very important to making them last longer. Before washing your hair extensions: Brush your hair and remove all tangles and knots. Then wet a small portion of hair at the time and use a good detangling shampoo, and a rich moisturiser. Distribute shampoo and conditioner evenly throughout the hair. Always wash my hair going in a downward motion. Apply a deep moisturising conditioner to your extensions. After washing and conditioning your hair, apply a good leave -in conditioning product, this always helps to keep your hair super soft and moist.

If you have wavy or curly textured hair extensions and plan to wear the hair wavy or curly you need to apply a curl defining/curl control cream while the hair is wet. This way it will stop the hair from frizzing and lock in the wave or curl in the hair.

You can do anything with our virgin hair, curl, colour, comb, and flat iron it to any style just like your natural hair. If you are not familiar with colouring hair please take you extensions to a professional colourist.

How To Measure

Tai London wigs and full lace wigs are designed for the perfect fit therefore measuring your head for your full lace wig is very important. Getting the measurements correctly is essential if you require a custom made lace wig. Our lace wig makers will ventilate your lace wig to the specifications you provide and adjustments cannot be made once production starts. The greatest advantage is that you will have control over getting the best fit. See clear simple instructions below. It is best to ask a friend or relative to help measure your head as it is difficult to get an accurate measurement yourself. We would advise that the person measuring your head measures your head at least three times following the guide below.

  1. The Circumference of the Head:
This measures the distance around your head. Starting at the centre of the front hairline, place the tape flat against your head, going just above the ear towards the back of the head, keeping the tape at the nape of your neck and go around to the opposite side of your head, just above the opposite ear and returning to the centre of the front hairline. (Average measurement is 22" - 22.5" inches)
  1. From Forehead to Nape of Neck:

This measures the length of your head from the front to the nape of your neck. To determine where the nape of your neck is, tilt your head back and look up. Where your neck bends and may even develop a skin fold, is where your nape is. You want the bottom of the lace wig to sit right above this area so that when you do tilt your head back that far, your lace wig will not shift on your head. This area is often right at the occipital bone, but be sure to take the measurement with your neck bent down so that you are looking at your shoes. Starting at the front hairline, measure directly across the middle top of your head to the area that you have determined is your nape. Keeping in mind that your lace cap is glued to the outside perimeter of your natural hairline on your skin. (Average measurement is 14.5" inches)

  1. Ear to Ear Across Front Hairline:
This measures your temple to temple length for tape tab placement. Place tape at your temple, just in front of your ear, bring tape up towards the top of the head and go 1.5 inch behind the front hairline, down to the opposite temple in front of the opposite ear. (Average measurement is 11" inches)
  1. From Ear to Ear Over Top of Head:
This measures your head for the top of the lace wig base. Place tape against your head at the top edge of your ear and go directly across the top of your head to the top edge of the opposite ear. (Average measurement is 12.5" inches)
  1. Point to Point:
From temple to temple across the back of head. Note: Place the tape measure at your temple to temple point on each side of your head as shown in the picture. Keeping in mind that your lace wig is glued to the outside perimeter of your natural hairline in this area as well.  (Average measurement is 14.5" inches)
  1. Nape of Neck
This measures the width of your neck. Place tape at the lowest point on the bone behind your ear (mastoid bone) and measure across the neck to the opposite mastoid bone. (Average measurement is 4.5" inches

Please note the average measurement are suitable for medium cap size wig.
